Easy and efficient heat source for the cottage
With an electric radiator, you can easily and quickly achieve a comfortable room temperature in any room. Electric radiators are especially frequently used in holiday homes where you may only stay seasonally or on a few weekends or weeks during a year.
Can I use electric radiators as a primary heat source in my home?
You can easily use electric radiators as a primary heat source in your home, but most people use them as secondary heat sources. For example, in summer cottages or in rooms where no other heat sources are installed, such as in a basement or attic, in a shed or in the workshop in the garage.
What type of electric radiator should I choose?
There is a difference in needs, and therefore there is of course also a difference between the electric radiators that you can find on the market. For example, there may be a difference between whether you should use electric radiators as a primary heat source for heating your entire home, or whether they should be used to heat your holiday home. Likewise, there is a difference in how large a room the radiator should be able to heat, as well as whether you imagine installing several radiators in the same room or only one. In addition, it is also necessary to take into account the insulation of the room that you are going to have heated. For example, most holiday homes are less insulated than most residential houses. This is partly due to the fact that a holiday home is generally only intended for use in the summer, while a year-round home must be able to be habitable, yes, all year round.
You can basically get two different kinds of electric radiators: electric radiators with plugs that can be connected directly to the socket and electric radiators as a fixed installation, which must be installed directly on the wall. The latter is, of course, the most permanent solution, while electric radiators with plugs can easily be moved from one room or house to another, which of course provides enormous flexibility.
In addition, electric radiators come with three different types of thermostats:
- mechanical
- Electronic
- Digital
Mechanical thermostats are the oldest type of thermostat, and therefore also often sit on the cheapest types of electric radiators, as they are the cheapest to produce. However, they have the disadvantage that they are not particularly sensitive, and therefore the temperature of radiators with mechanical thermostats can often fluctuate up to five degrees.
Electronic thermostats have the same functions as the mechanical ones, but are significantly more sensitive, which means that the temperature fluctuations are significantly less.
Digital thermostats are by far the smartest type of thermostat on the market. The temperature fluctuations are roughly similar to those you will experience on the electronic ones, but the digital ones have the advantage that they have a wide range of functions that make them more energy and not least user-friendly. For example, you have the option of getting digital thermostats with WiFi, so you can turn on and off, as well as regulate the temperature of the radiator from an app that you can install on your smartphone. This means, among other things, that you will be able to turn on the heating in the cottage from home, so it has time to warm up for when you arrive. Likewise, it is quite smart to be able to turn off the heating again if, for example, you forgot it on the fly before you left.
