Choosing a recessed spotlight
The selection of recessed spotlights is large, and it can be difficult to figure out what to choose.
One place to start is to find out what voltage you want to drive to your spots, as today both 12V &230V recessed spots are available. The majority of the spotlights installed today are 230V, as no transformer is required for them, but they can be connected directly to the 230V installation in the building. Recessed spotlights can be used anywhere in the house, but there are some things to be aware of. For example, if you want to put recessed spotlights in your bathroom, or if they are going to sit outdoors, you need to be sure they are approved for this.
Another thing to make sure is that the recessed pot is secured on the back, as it develops a lot of heat. One way to do this is to mount a safe box over the recessed spot up in the attic, thus ensuring that insulation and the like do not come into contact with the spot.
Another and somewhat easier method is to buy a recessed spotlight that can be mounted directly in the insulation, and thus avoid the safe box up in the attic. It also has the advantage that the installation depth is usually smaller, and thus can be mounted where there is not much space.
